UAB Men’s Tennis Falls to Lipscomb

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB men's tennis team fell to Lipscomb, 4-3, on Saturday at the UAB Campus Courts despite winning three singles matchups. The loss snaps a two-match winning streak for the Blazers.
Lipscomb (4-3, 0-0 ASUN) won the doubles point on courts one and three as Jorge Ortegon/Pedro Uribe won in the No. 1 position against Vojtech Podzemny/Daniel Janko, 7-5, before Pablo Caffarena/Maksim Bogdanovich bested Giovani Pasini/Parker Bradbary on court three.
In singles play, UAB (4-6, 0-2 C-USA) came out of the gate hot as Michal Lusovky got a quick 6-3, 6-3 victory over Oretegon to knot the match score at one. The Bisons responded with a court one win by Caffarena over Nikola Puric, 6-2, 6-4.
Lipscomb went up two as Bogdanovich overcame Thanos Spyropolous, 7-5, 7-6 on court three before UAB pulled to within one, 3-2, as Podzemny defeated Uribe on court four, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6.
Lipscomb clinched the match with a court five win as Non Garcia-Nieto bested Janko, 7-5, 7-5. Pasini won his match with Carlos Salas-Tulla on court six, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3, but it was too little to late for the Green and Gold.
UAB is now 6-1 against Lipscomb as the Bisons defeated the Blazers for the first time in program history.
The Blazers return to the courts on March 20 as they take on Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
