BIRMINGHAM – Softball season is almost here! There is so much to be excited about in Birmingham as the UAB softball team opens its schedule up on Feb. 12 in Troy, Ala. The team welcomes nine newcomers to the roster for the 2021 season. UABSports.com will introduce you to these new Blazers and provide unique opportunities to get to know them.
Today's 'Meet the Blazers' profile features a freshman catcher/infielder, Brooke Burback.

Position: Infield/Catcher
Height: 5-8
Hometown: Chelsea, Ala.
High School: Chelsea
What is your favorite thing about your hometown?
BB: "The close-knit community."
What has been your favorite part of Birmingham so far?
BB: "Being close enough to home to see my family."
When did you start playing softball and why?
BB: "At eight years old. My brothers played baseball and I always wanted to join them, but instead I discovered softball."
What is your favorite softball memory?
BB: "Winning nationals this past summer."
Did you play any other sports growing up?
BB: "Growing up I played basketball."
Why do you wear the No. 2?
BB: "I chose No. 2 when I was 10 because of my favorite baseball player, Derek Jeter."
Why did you choose UAB?
BB: "It's close to my family and the team and staff are great."
Do you have any siblings? If so, what are their names and how old are they?
BB: I have three brothers: Josh (23), Jake (22) and Joey (19).
Who is your biggest inspiration?
BB: "My dad. He has worked so hard for me to achieve my dream."
Do you remember what you wanted to be when you grew up?
BB: "Growing up I wanted to be a marine biologist."
What do you want to be now?
BB: "Now I want to go into medical sales."
What are you majoring in?
BB: "I am a marketing major."
Do you have a favorite quote?
BB: "After all, tomorrow is another day."
What is your favorite TV show to binge watch?
BB: "Greys Anatomy."
What do you like to do in your free time?
BB: "Relax."
If you could have any actress play you in a movie about your life who would it be?
BB: "Blake Lively."
What is your favorite meal/food?
BB: "Fettuccine Alfredo."
If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live?
BB: "Hawaii."
What is your favorite book?
BB: "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children."
What are you looking forward to most in your first softball season at UAB?
BB: "Having my dad see me on the field for the first time accomplishing our dream."
