UAB Defeats Samford 5-2

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's tennis team got back on the winning track Wednesday afternoon after a 5-2 victory over Samford at the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion.
With the win, the Blazers improve to 3-5 on the season.
The match started off with Samford winning on Court 2 in doubles. However, Adela Wasserbauerova and Dominika Hrabalova along with Megan Bertrands and Annalisa Smith were winners on Courts 1 and 3 respectively to capture the doubles point.
UAB went ahead 2-0 after Sydney Clarke was a 6-1, 6-1 winner on Court 4. The Bulldogs got their first point of the match on Court 5 and tied the match at 2-2 after winning on Court 3. Jana Hecking came back from dropping the first set to win on Court 1 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. The clincher came from Annalisa Smith after a 7-6, 6-4 victory on Court 6. Hrabalova finished her match on Court 2 with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win.
"I'm really proud of the way we responded today after our match on Sunday," said head coach Mark Tjia. "We played with poise, determination, and resilience to be able to tough out this match."
UAB returns home to George Ward Park on Feb. 28 with a noon start time against Murray State. The Racers (1-3) are coming off a 5-2 loss to Middle Tennessee on Feb. 21.
