Blazers Fall On the Road to No. 4 Alabama, 7-1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The UAB softball team fell on the road to No. 4 Alabama 7-1 at Rhoads Stadium on Wednesday night in the team's first midweek game of the season.
After holding the Blazers (4-5) scoreless in the top of the first, the Crimson Tide (9-0) was able to strike first, hitting a three-run home run, bringing the score to 3-0.
Alabama tacked on another run in the bottom of the second.
The Blazers got on the board in the top of the third, with Tuscaloosa native KK Crocker scoring Jenna Olszewski with an RBI groundout, cutting Alabama's lead to 4-1 going in to the third.
The Tide responded with two runs of their own in bottom of the third and another one in the fourth.
Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth, six and seventh.
Olszewski finished the game with a team-high two hits.
Despite the loss, senior Parker Conrad shined in the circle for the Blazers, coming in relief in the fourth inning and recording five strikeouts and no hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
Amy Woodham (0-4) pitched two innings, giving up three hits, four earned runs and struck out one batter.
Jaycee Cook pitched 1.2 innings, giving up two hits, three runs (two earned) and striking out one.
NEXT UP
The Blazers return to action this weekend at Mary Bowers Field. UAB will host Nicholls State, Eastern Illinois and Alabama State for the UAB Softball Invite on Feb. 25-27.
UAB's first game will be Friday at 4 p.m. against Nicholls State.
