UAB Travels to Troy for Mid-Week Game Against the Trojans

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB baseball team travels to Troy to face the Trojans in a mid-week game on Feb. 23. Tuesday's action is set to take place at Riddle-Pace field with first pitch at 6 p.m.
"It's always fun to play in-state teams," said head coach Perry Roth. "We are excited to be back on the field against a good Troy team. Every team we play this year will have a lot of returners in the lineup and Troy is no exception. They are a veteran talented team very similar to us and they are well coached. It should be a very competitive game as it always is when we play Troy."
UAB VS. TROY
The Blazers (2-1, 0-0 CUSA) hold the all-time series lead over Troy (3-1, 0-0 SBC), 30-24 which dates back to 1979. The most recent matchup came March 3, 2020 when the Blazers defeated the Trojans 5-2 at Young Memorial Field.
SCOUTING TROY
Last year, the Trojans finished the season with an overall record of 9-8 after their season was cut short due to COVID-19. Last season, Troy boasted an 8-1 home record and this year has started off 3-1. Leading the Trojans' offense are freshman Kyle Mock and sophomore Logan Cerny. Cerny has the team`s best batting average with .625 and was recently named Collegiate Baseball's National Player of the Week. Mock follows with a .500 batting average and a 4-game hit streak.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers opened up the 2021 season with a 2-1 series victory over Valparaiso Feb. 19-21. In game one, Valpo used a four-run second inning for the 6-2 win. In the second game, right-handed pitcher Tyler O'Clair went 6.0 innings with eight strikeouts to lead the Blazers to the 8-2 win. Freshman Carson Knight pitched a gem going 3.2 innings with seven strikeouts during the 4-1 series-clinching win.
RECORD BREAKER
After an eventful weekend of baseball, redshirt sophomore Jess Davis is currently eighth in program history in career stolen bases (59). Against Valparaiso, Davis stole five bases in three games. He needs three stolen bases to move ahead of Jonathan Merritt in seventh. Davis also leads the nation in stolen bases after Opening Weekend.

BASEBALL AT YOUNG MEMORIAL FIELD
Fans, including Gold Card holders and students, will not be permitted to attend home baseball games played at Young Memorial Field. Attendees will be limited to the player pass list and limited premium spaces.
Attendees will be asked to practice social distancing and wear a mask at all times per state and county ordinance.
BASEBALL AT REGIONS FIELD
Regions Field will accommodate fans, including Gold Card holders and students, with social distancing measures in place.
Fans will be asked to practice social distancing and sit in available seats. Masks are required at all times per state and county ordinance.
