UAB Baseball Opens 2021 Season Against Valparaiso

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB baseball team opens the 2021 season with a three-game series against Valparaiso Feb. 19-21 at Young Memorial Field.
Friday and Saturday's games are scheduled for 2 p.m. with Sunday at 1 p.m. Attendees will be limited to player pass list only.
"This is an exciting time of the year for all of college baseball," head coach Perry Roth said. "Opening Day is special and this one even more so because of last spring. We are looking forward to a fun season and a competitive nonconference and conference schedule."
UAB VS. VALPO
The Blazers hold the all-time series lead over Valparaiso 12-3 dating back to 1979. The most recent matchups between the teams came Feb. 24-26, 2017. In the three-game series, UAB took the first two games while Valpo took game three.
ROTH AT THE HELM
This is Perry Roth's first season a head coach, and his 15th overall with the program. Roth was named interim head coach on May 12, 2020 following the retirement of former head coach Brian Shoop. Roth becomes the fifth head coach in program history.
SCOUTING VALPO
Last season, Valparaiso finished with a 2-14 overall record before the season was cut short due to COVID-19. Valpo returns 2019 All-MVC Honorable Mention Riley Dent. Dent averaged .311 and seven RBIs in 16 games last season.
RECORD WATCH
Redshirt sophomore outfielder Jess Davis is currently ninth in program history in career stolen bases (54). He needs three more steals to move into eighth in front of Nick Crawford.
BLAZER PRESEASON HONORS
Catcher J Paul Fullerton was named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Team by both the conference and Perfect Game. Jess Davis was also named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Team by Perfect Game.

BASEBALL AT YOUNG MEMORIAL FIELD
Fans, including Gold Card holders and students, will not be permitted to attend home baseball games played at Young Memorial Field. Attendees will be limited to the player pass list and limited premium spaces.
Attendees will be asked to practice social distancing and wear a mask at all times per state and county ordinance.
BASEBALL AT REGIONS FIELD
Regions Field will accommodate fans, including Gold Card holders and students, with social distancing measures in place.
Fans will be asked to practice social distancing and sit in available seats. Masks are required at all times per state and county ordinance.
BASEBALL SINGLE GAME TICKETS
General admission single game tickets will be on sale for games at Regions Field and seats on site are available in groups of up to four (4) seats by clicking here.
