BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Conference USA foe South Carolina on Saturday night at BBVA Field.
The Blazers outshot the Gamecocks 15-8 in Saturday's setback, firing 10 of their 15 attempts in the first half. Five of UAB's 10 first-half attempts were on target, including a pair of attempts on frame from senior Brooks Rice in the first half.
After South Carolina (4-6-1) recorded the first shot on target in the sixth minute, UAB tallied shots on goal from Rice, Zak Mohamed and leading goal scorer Nathaniel St. Louis before the Gamecocks netted their first goal in the 31st minute.
UAB responded with three shot attempts in the first half following South Carolina's opening goal, making it a 1-0 game entering halftime.
The Gamecocks doubled their advantage early into the second half when Logan Frost secured a brace with a counter-attacking strike. The Blazers responded well following Frost's second-half strike, earning a free kick in a dangerous position right outside of the box in the 63rd minute.
Tyrell Price struck the ball with pace toward the South Carolina goal, but the ball hit the cross bar and flew over the woodwork. UAB once again hit the woodwork in the 88th minute when Teodor Thorvaldsen made a quick turn at the top of the 18-yard box and fired his shot off the cross bar.
UAB earned seven corners in Saturday's match, five of which came in the first half.
Price and Rice tied for a team-high four shots in Saturday night's game.
The Blazers will return to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to No. 5 Marshall.
