BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's soccer team continues its stretch of six straight Conference USA matches when the Blazers travel to No. 3 Marshall on Saturday. Kickoff for Saturday's match in Huntington, West Virginia, is set for 6 p.m. CST.
After a home setback to South Carolina on Saturday, the Blazers will look to hand the Thundering Herd (7-1-3) just their second loss of the 2021 season.
UAB's match against Marshall will stream live on ESPN+. Fans will also be able to follow this weekend's matchup via live stats.
LAST TIME OUT
UAB fell 2-0 to South Carolina in Saturday's matchup at BBVA Field.
The Blazers outshot the Gamecocks 15-8 in Saturday's setback, firing 10 of their 15 attempts in the first half. Five of UAB's 10 first-half attempts were on target, but the Green and Gold could not sneak in a goal in the first 45 minutes. South Carolina scored its first goal in the 31st minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime, scoring its second goal in the 63rd minute to double its lead.
The Blazers, however, would not go quietly. Tyrell Price earned a free kick right outside the 18-yard box shortly after USC's second goal, hitting the cross bar on his attempt that would have sliced the lead in half. UAB once again hit the cross bar later in the second half when Teodor Thorvaldsen made a quick turn at the top of the 18-yard box and fired a shot off the top of the woodwork in the 88th minute.
Senior Nathaniel St. Louis maintains the team lead in points (11), goals (five), shots (20) and shots on goal (15). Thorvaldsen paces the Blazers with four assists.
THE SERIES VS. NO. 3 MARSHALL
Saturday night's matchup marks the 20th meeting in the series between the Blazers and Thundering Herd. UAB holds a 11-6-2 record against Marshall, sporting a 5-4-1 record in the past 10 matchups. The Blazers won six straight matches in the series from 2010-14 and will look for their first win in the series since a 3-0 triumph on Sept. 17, 2016.
SCOUTING NO. 3 MARSHALL
Marshall, who jumped from No. 5 to No. 3 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll, has outscored opponents 26-10 through 11 matches this season. The Thundering Herd have two wins over top-25 teams this season, knocking off then-No. 21 James Madison 6-1 in the season opener before shutting out then-No. 20 Akron 2-0 in September.
Marshall has lost just one match this season, falling to then-No. 15 Virginia Tech 3-2 in August. The Thundering have also earned ties against No. 21 West Virginia, No. 6 Kentucky and Coastal Carolina.

Goalkeeper Oliver Semmie has made 10 of the team's 11 starts in net this season, posting a 0.95 goals against average with 32 saves and five clean sheets.
