BIRMINGHAM — UAB volleyball opens the spring season with a home-and-home series against Lipscomb Friday and Saturday night.

This weekend's matches mark the first time since 2007 the Blazers and Bison will meet. In the first-ever meeting, UAB took the 3-1 win at Bartow Arena.
SCOUTING THE BISON
- In 2019, Lipscomb finished the season 16-13 and advanced to the second round of the ASUN Tournament.
- Lipscomb swept last week's ASUN weekly honors: Megan Kuper (Player of the Week), Meg Mersman (Defensive Player of the Week) and Delaney Dilfer (Freshman of the Week).
- The Bison return eight players from the 2019 squad and add five newcomers.
THE LAST TIME OUT
- It has been 83 days since UAB volleyball has last played in a nonconference matchup against WKU on Nov. 7, 2020.
- The Hilltoppers swept the Blazers going 24-14, 25-18, 25-23.
- UAB was led by Fernanda Maida with 17 kills and 11 digs. Lidya Canturk produced 12 assists.
HOME SWEET HOME
- Saturday's match marks the first time in 447 days the Green and Gold will play in Bartow Arena.
- In 2019, the Blazers produced a 7-5 record at home including three wins at the Blazer Invitational.
- For three straight seasons, UAB has had a winning record in Bartow.
MAGIC CITY VS. MUSIC CITY
- UAB is 10-1 all-time against the trio of Division I schools in Nashville with a volleyball team (Lipscomb, Tennessee State and Belmont).
- The Blazers have the best record against Tennessee State going 7-0. UAB is 1-2 against Belmont.
