Men’s Golf to Host Graeme McDowell Invitational at Greystone

BIRMINGHAM – Looking to win its third consecutive tournament, the UAB men's golf team will host the Graeme McDowell Invitational this Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 29-30, at Greystone Golf & Country Club – Founders Course.
The 10-team field will play 36 holes on Tuesday and 18 on Wednesday. Along with UAB, participating teams include Augusta, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Louisiana, Middle Tennessee, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy and ULM.
"We are excited to return to Birmingham and play a course we are familiar with," head coach Mike Wilson. "Our team is playing with a lot of confidence so I am excited to see what they will do on their home course."
UAB has won each of the first two tournaments it has played in this season. The Blazers opened the season by winning the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate by 14 strokes, and followed that up with a six-stroke victory at the Scenic City Classic last week.
The Blazers will field a team that consists of senior William Walker III, senior Drew Mathers, sophomore Ethan Hagood, junior Nick Robillard, freshman Khavish Varadan and sophomore Sam Jeffcoat. Four of the top six scores will count each round.
Varadan is the reigning Conference USA Golfer of the Week after a second place finish in Chattanooga last week. Robillard is leading the team with 71.1 stroke average and has finished Top 5 in each tournament, including winning the Jim Rivers.
