Crews Announces Addition of Four New Members to UAB Bowling

BIRMINGHAM – UAB bowling head coach Michelle Crews has announced the addition of four new members for the 2020-21 season.
Joining the Blazers are Heather Borden, Jillian Hulsey, Haley Kvarnberg and Shauna Rodgers, as these four look to continue building upon the recent momentum for UAB on the national stage.
"I am so excited to announce this group of signees for the 2020-21 season," Crews said. "These player are academically strong and have the competitive experience we need to elevate our program. This season, we lost three key players in the lineup, so it was very important for me to find a few players I felt could fill those voids in the bowlers circle and I truly believe I have found them."
Borden is a local product who comes to UAB from nearby Calera High School. Recently, she placed first in singles and finished third overall at Huntsville Youth City Tournament. Borden is a two-time Greater-Birmingham USBC All-City team honoree. She is a member of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, National Honor Society, National Art Society and Calera High School's Student Government.
Hulsey is also a local product from Thompson High School in Alabaster. She was the Salutatorian of her class and a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, and National Technical Honor Society. Hulsey owns the Alabama state high school record of 289 for an individual game. She was also her team's MVP in her junior and senior year.
Kvarnberg is a graduate transfer from the University of Florida and comes to UAB with three years of eligibility. She received her undergraduate degree in two years. The West Palm Beach, Fla. native was a four-year varsity bowler in high school with two appearances at the Florida High School Bowling State Championships. She also competed in the second Bowlero Elite Series.
Rodgers comes to the Magic City from Oviedo, Fla. On the lanes, she was the 2019 Seminole County and Florida Dairy Farmer's Girls Bowler of the Year, made the 2019 Orlando All-City team, and finished the season being the first high school bowler in Florida to average 225 in individual and team matches.
