Blazers Shut Out Jackson State for Fifth Straight Win

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB women's tennis team notched its fifth straight win on Sunday afternoon at George Ward Park as it blanked Jackson State, 4-0.
The Blazers claimed the doubles point on courts 2 and 3 as Jana Hecking and Marlene Herrman defeated Maria Martinez and Lucia Placidi, 6-1, before Megan Bertrands and Alexia Witthaus Vine overcame Noelle Frenzel and Sofia Beggiatto, 6-2.
In singles play, Hecking won against Sherine Salem, 6-3, retired on court 1, giving the Green and Gold a 2-0 advantage in the match. UAB clinched the match on courts 5 and 6 as Bertrands defeated Martinez, 6-2, 6-1, and Hana Sisirak was victorious against Placidi, 6-1, 6-2, respectively.
The Blazers return to the courts on Thursday as they welcome UT Martin to George Ward Park with first serve scheduled for noon.
