UAB Football Falls to Louisiana 24-20 at Legion Field

BIRMINGHAM – UAB's 21-game home winning streak came to an end on Friday night as the Blazers fell to Louisiana 24-20 at Legion Field in a non-conference matchup.
The Blazers (4-2) led for the entirety of the game until 6:35 remaining in the fourth quarter. UAB had two possessions down the stretch to try to reclaim the lead, but both ended in interceptions.
UAB running back Spencer Brown had 28 carries for 128 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Blazers. In the process, Brown became the school record holder in total touchdowns with 40. He also notched his 17th career 100-yard rushing game and fourth this season.
Kristopher Moll led the defense with nine tackles and the team's only sack. The two offenses were separated by one yard as Louisiana (4-1) had 286 yards of total offense and UAB 285. Of UAB's 285 total yards, 175 came on the ground.
It was a defensive battle in the first quarter as both team connected on a field goal for the only points in the opening 15 minutes.
With UAB leading 6-3 early in the second quarter, the Blazers turned to the run game, led by Brown who had 85 yards in the half, including a 1-yard touchdown run that gave the Blazers a 13-3 advantage with :34 left.
On the ensuing kickoff, however, Louisiana's Chris Smith had a 100-yard touchdown return which made the score 13-10 in favor of UAB at halftime.
The UAB lead doubled to 20-10 when Brown became UAB's career leader in total touchdowns as his 1-yard score on 4th-and-1 gave him his 40th career touchdown and second of the night.
Once again, the Ragin' Cajuns responded with a late touchdown in the third quarter as Levi Lewis found Jalen Williams for a 23-yard touchdown with just :20 remaining, making the score 20-17 entering the fourth quarter.
Lewis then put the Ragin' Cajuns ahead when he connected with Pearse Migl from nine yards out which proved to be the winning score.
The Blazers jump back into Conference USA action next weekend with a road trip to Louisiana Tech. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. on Stadium.
