RUSTON, La. – Despite rushing for 338 yards, the UAB football team fell to Louisiana Tech 37-34 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon at Joe Aillet Stadium.

The Blazers (4-3, 2-1 C-USA) were paced by Spencer Brown and DeWayne McBride who had 140 and 133 rushing yards and two touchdowns each. However, Louisiana Tech (4-3, 3-2 C-USA) was able to score with 10 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.

After both teams exchanged field goals in the first overtime period, Louisiana Tech forced a UAB fumble which was upheld after review. On the ensuing Bulldog possession, the Blazers forced a missed field goal, but were called for running into the kicker which extended the drive and allowed Louisiana Tech to kick another game-winner.

Kristopher Moll led the defensive charge with eight tackles, while Jordan Smith, Tyree Turner and Alex Wright all had seven.

UAB fell behind 10-0 early in the second quarter after an 81-yard pick six with exactly seven minute remaining. But on the next play, freshman DeWayne McBride ripped off the longest scoring run in school history as he broke a 75-yarder to get UAB on the board.

Those 75 yards were a part of 210 rushing yards in the first half for the Blazers. Spencer Brown had 84 of them, including a six-yard touchdown run with 1:42 remaining to give UAB its first lead at 14-10.

Louisiana Tech answered with 19 second left on an 18-yard touchdown reception to take a 17-14 lead at halftime.

However, the Blazers continued to pound the rock after halftime and retook the lead on their first possession of the second half, moving 50 yards on four plays (all rushes), as McBride capped in with a 22-yard touchdown rush for a 21-17 lead.

The defense then stepped up as Antonio Moultrie recorded his first career interception on Louisiana Tech's next possession to set up the UAB offense at the 14-yard line. Two plays later, Brown's 10-yard touchdown gave UAB a 28-17 advantage.

Matt Quinn added a 45-yard field goal, a career-high for the Spanish Fort, Ala. native, for the final score of the third quarter, putting the Blazers up 31-17 headed into the fourth.

Louisiana Tech scored seven points right away in the final stanza when Jawaun Johnson hauled in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Allen to make the score 31-24.

With just 10 seconds remaining in the game, Allen found Adrian Hardy in the end zone from 24 yards out to tie the game at 31 and send it to overtime.

Each time scored a field goal in the first overtime period, with Quinn converting on a 42-yard attempt to send the game into a second overtime.

After Tyler Johnston III found Trea Shropshire at the three yard line in the second overtime period, Louisiana Tech forced a Blazer fumble before hitting the game-winning 35-yard field goal.

The Blazers are off next week and return to the field on Nov. 14 as UAB hosts North Texas with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.
