WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
- Senior running back Spencer Brown needs 13 more yards to move into 13th place in Conference USA history for career rushing yards. Brown is the nation's second active career leading rusher with 3,572 career yards.
- Brown is having the best season of his career with an average of 112.5 yards per game. He has rushed for over 100 yards in three of four games this season and has five touchdowns. Brown needs three more total touchdowns to pass Pat Green for the all-time total touchdown record at UAB. Brown has 36 rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown.
- The UAB offense will be challenged by reigning Conference USA Player of the Year DeAngelo Malone. An edge rusher, Malone is currently leading the league in TFL per game (1.5) and has 30 total tackles on the year.
- UAB's offensive line has been outstanding through the first four games of the year. The Blazers are averaging 179.2 rushing yards per game and have only allowed two sacks, which is tied for the fourth fewest in the nation. WKU enters the game ranked ninth in Conference USA in rushing defense, allowing 195.5 yards per game on the ground.
- Defensively, UAB boasts the nation's second ranked pass defense as the Blazers are allowing just 152.2 passing yards per game. UAB has not allowed an opponent to pass for more than 200 yards in any game this year, and held UTSA to a season-low 90 passing yards last time out.
- The Blazer defense has allowed just 23 points in its last two games and has held those two opponents to just 5-of-25 on third down. UAB looks for another solid performance against a WKU team that ranks 12th in the league in total offense.
- Redshirt freshman Bryson Lucero will be making his third career start at quarterback on Saturday. Lucero has played in all four games this season with 652 passing yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions.
- UAB is 31-14 overall since returning to action in 2017, including a mark of 21-6 against league opponents. One of those six losses came to WKU last year in Bowling Green. With a win this weekend, UAB would move to 4-0 against teams they lost to in the previous matchup.
