Men’s Tennis Drops Season-Opener to No. 21 Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The UAB men's tennis team dropped its first match of the spring season on Sunday in Starkville, Miss. as it fell, 7-0, to 21st ranked Mississippi State.
The Bulldogs opened the match with a sweep of doubles play as Giovanni Oradini and Stedman Strickland defeated UAB's Tom el Safadi and Nikolai Manchev, 6-1. The No. 3 position clinched the doubles point for Mississippi State, with Gregor Ramskogler and Alberto Colas Sanchez topping Daniel Janko and Parker Bradbary, 6-1.
Janko fell to No. 101 Davide Tortora, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 4 spot to open singles play before the Bulldogs' Nicolas Ocana overcame el Safadi in the No. 6 position, 6-4, 6-0 to put the home team up 3-0.
Court 3 was the next to finish, with Manchev falling to Ramskogler, 6-2, 6-2, putting Mississippi State up 4-0 and clinching the match.
In the No. 5 position, senior Giovani Pasini lost a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Colas Sanchez. Michal Lusovsky won the opening set of his matchup with Florian Broska on Court 2, but ultimately fell, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6). Court 1 was the last to complete play as Roman Postolka came up short against No. 15 Oradini, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).
UAB returns to the courts on Saturday as it takes on RV Alabama at 1 p.m.
