Blazers Fall to Alabama, 6-1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The UAB men's tennis team dropped its Saturday afternoon road match to (RV) Alabama as the Crimson Tide picked up a 6-1 victory at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
Alabama's Edson Ortiz and Patrick Kaukovalta defeated Michal Lusovsky and Roman Postolka in the No. 1 doubles position, but the Blazers stormed back, taking the next two doubles matches to claim the doubles point and go up, 1-0. Nikolai Manchev and Tom el Safadi overcame Jeremy Gschwendtner and Zhe Zhou, 6-2, before Giovani Pasini and Daniel Janko clinched the point with a 7-6 (7-5) win over Riccardo Roberto and Marcelo Sepulveda.
Zhou was victorious over Manchev, 6-0, 6-0, on Court 3, the first singles match to finish. On Court 6, Sepulveda took down el Safadi, 6-1, 6-1, to give the Crimson Tide a 2-1 advantage before Kaukovalta pushed it to 3-1 with a win over Pasini, 6-4, 6-0.
Alabama clinched the match on Court 5 as Janko fell to Gschwendtner, 6-2, 6-2. Courts 1 and 2 were the last to finish play, with Lusovsky falling to No. 96 Roberto, 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 2 position before Ortiz topped Postolka, 6-4, 6-4, in the No. 1 slot.
UAB falls to 0-2 on the season, but looks to bounce back on Feb. 2 when it plays host to Chattanooga at 1 p.m. at the UAB Campus Courts. Admission is free to all UAB home matches.
