BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's golf team finished 13-under par and in second place at the 2019 Graeme McDowell Invitational at Greystone Golf and Country Club.
The Blazers entered Tuesday's final round one shot behind North Florida, and that was the final margin of victory as UNF won the team title at -14. After UAB, Arkansas State (-10), South Carolina (+1) and Memphis (+3) rounded out the top five.
UAB had three players shoot one-under par in the final in Murray Naysmith, John Snoddy and Khavish Varadan. Overall, Naysmith and William Walker III led the Blazers as both shot -3 for the tournament and tied for eighth overall.
Junior Ben Reichert finished tied for 11th overall at -2, while Snoddy was +1 and finished tied for 22nd.
Rounding out UAB's lineup was Varadan who finished tied for 47th at +8, but shot five-under par on the back nine in Tuesday's final round to help him card a -1 for the round.
UAB's two individual players had the two best rounds of the day as Ethan Hagood shot the lowest round of the entire tournament with a seven-under 65. Alfie Fox also had a great final round, carding a three-under 69. They finished tied for 35th and tied for 42nd, respectively.
The Blazers remain in Birmingham for their next tournament at the Jerry Pate National Invitational, hosted by the University of Alabama, Oct. 7-8 at Old Overton.
