Big Final Round Sees UAB Finish Fourth at Jim Rivers Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's golf team moved up three spots on the final day of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate and placed fourth overall in its first tournament of the 2019-20 season.
Senior Murray Naysmith was a big part of the Blazers' success on the final day as he carded the low round of any player with a five-under 67. Naysmith catapulted up 17 spots on Tuesday and finished tied for fifth overall at -4 (75-70-67 = 212). Naysmith had five birdies and no bogeys in his final round.
Fellow senior William Walker III was UAB's second finisher as he tied for 15th overall. Walker III posted consecutive rounds of one-under 71 to open the tournament and shot +2 74 in the final round to finish at even par overall.
Redshirt junior Ben Reichert also had a solid final round with a two-under 70 which moved him up 16 spots as he finished tied for 23 overall (72-76-70 = 218, +2).
Sophomore Ethan Hagood tied for 34th (73-75-74 = 222, +6), while freshman Khavish Varadan rounded out the UAB efforts by tying for 58th (79-73-75 = 227, +11).
Playing as an individual, John Snoddy placed tied for 18th overall at +1 and shot a five-under 67 in the second round.
Georgia (-17) won the team title, followed by Texas State (-11), Louisiana Tech (-6), UAB (+1) and Middle Tennessee (+2). UAB shot 291-289-285 in each round.
Individually, Georgia's Davis Thompson won the tournament by shooting -7.
The Blazers are back in action next Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 23-24, when they host the Graeme McDowell Invitational at Greystone Golf and Country Club. The field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.
