MOBILE, Ala. – In the final match of the Jaguar Classic on Sunday night, UAB and Troy went the distance ending with a 1-1 draw.
In her collegiate debut, Eve Beyer faced 13 Trojans shots, turning back five for the Blazers (0-2-2).
The Trojans (2-0-1) got on the board in the 11th minute when Maddie Brune found Kiersten Edlund who scored in bottom right corner of the net.
UAB got the equalizer in the 45th minute, 14.6 seconds left until halftime. After the Blazers fed the ball into the box, Troy had a misplay and after a collision between Tori Gann and a Trojan defender, Sha'Nya Stephens buried the shot in the middle of the net.
The Blazers kept the pressure up the entire second half, firing 18 shots – six on target - at Troy keeper Haleigh Mercer. Regan Kommor had a pair of chances in the 88th minute, but Mercer made the stops.
In the extra frames, UAB sent seven more shots towards the goal. Morgan Halliwill had a chance to end the match in the 107th minute, but was robbed by an outstretched Mercer.
In total, the Blazers outshot the Trojans 36-to-13 and had 11 corner kicks to Troy's six.
"We broke down our game tonight in areas we wanted to improve and the team did just that," said head coach Erica Demers. "Ending the game with 36 shots just shows that sometimes no matter how many chances you have, the ball just does not bounce your way! Our players did a phenomenal job of creating opportunities on goal and now we just have to fine tune the details."
Next up, UAB hosts Alabama State (0-2-0). The Hornets have been outscored 12-1 this season heading into Tuesday's match against Faulkner. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at BBVA Field.
