BIRMINGHAM - The UAB softball team and head coach Jimmy Kolaitis announced the official signing of South Alabama transfer Brittani Reid to the program on Wednesday.
Reid's addition becomes the fourth transfer of Kolaitis' 2019 signing class. The future Blazer outfielder joins SEC transfers KK Crocker of Auburn and Macey Petrey of Mississippi State along with Amy Woodham, who recently led Chipola College to its third NJCAA National Championship from the mound. Reid will not be eligible until the 2021 season unlike the other Blazer transfers, but brings a wealth of experience and a big bat to the program after competing in the previous three seasons.
"We are excited to add Brittani to our Blazer family," said Kolaitis. "She will provide a ton of offense to our lineup as she is a proven hitter. Her experience and ability will help our team get to the next level."
Reid, a native of Kansas City, Mo., began her collegiate journey at the University of Kansas. There, she earned nine starts and appeared in 34 games as a true freshman. The former Jayhawk picked up eight hits, two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI at the plate and notched a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 10 putouts during her time in Lawrence, Kan.
The incoming Blazer next transferred to South Alabama, where she started 51 games during her sophomore season. Spending most of her time in the outfield, she led the team at the plate in multiple categories, posting eight home runs, three triples and 19 extra base hits while reaching 85 total bases and averaging a .535 slugging percentage. Reid ended the season with a .296 batting average with 47 hits. The former Jaguar thrived in her junior season as well, starting all 49 games and improving to a stellar .375 batting average. That mark along with her hit total (60), doubles (17) and total bases (100) led the team. Reid also averaged a .625 slugging percentage with 29 RBI and seven home runs last year, resulting in a First Team All-Sun Belt selection.
Prior to her collegiate success, Reid was a highly touted recruit at Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, Mo. She lettered all four years there, helping the Wildcats bring home a regional championship, three district championships and four conference championships. Reid also picked up individual honors such as first team all-conference (twice), first team all-district (twice), first team all-region (twice), first team all-state, offensive player of the year and defensive player of the year. Posting a .505 batting average and a .864 slugging percentage, she led her team in RBI with 38 as a senior. Reid also has Birmingham roots as she played travel ball with her sister and former Jaguar teammate, Alexis, for the Birmingham Bolts.
