Men's Golf Earns GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's golf team has earned the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Outstanding Team Academic Award for posting a collective team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2018-19 academic year.
The Blazers are one of 120 Division I programs named to the GCAA Outstanding Team Academic list, and one of 193 total from Division I, II, III and NAIA.
UAB recorded a collective 3.115 GPA last year and had eight of its 11 players post GPAs of 3.0 or higher. On the course, the Blazers were the highest ranked Conference USA team and earned the No. 1 seed for stroke play at the C-USA Championship.
"I am so proud of how our student-athletes conduct themselves not only on the course but also in the classroom," said head coach Mike Wilson. "UAB is highly demanding academic institution and for our team to excel in the classroom is a testament to their character."
The Blazers return 10 of their 11 players from last year and have added one of the top junior players in the country in Khavish Varadan. UAB's 2019-2020 schedule will be released at a later date.
