PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – The UAB men's golf team continued its strong spring run with a second-place finish at the Golfweek/Stifel Men's Spring Challenge, while Alejandro Fierro captured the individual championship.
UAB posted a three-round total of 851 (-13), finishing just two strokes behind team champion Connecticut (-15) in a competitive 16-team field.
The runner-up finish marks UAB's fifth consecutive top-four finish, as the Blazers continue to build momentum down the stretch of the spring season. Over that five-tournament stretch, UAB is a combined 50-under par and has now recorded its most top-three finishes in a season since 2015-16.
Fierro led the way for the Blazers, earning individual championship honors at 9-under par with rounds of 71, 68 and 68. He finished one stroke ahead of the field to secure the individual title.
Erik Olin also delivered a strong performance, tying for fifth at 5-under (72-69-70), while Morgan Slaton earned a top-10 finish, tying for 10th at 2-under (71-69-74).
Patrick Delaney (+6) and Alvaro Huidobro (+7) rounded out the Blazers' lineup, and Clipper Salmon competed as an individual (+12).
UAB positioned itself near the top of the leaderboard early with rounds of 284 (-4) and 277 (-11) over the first two days before closing with a 290 (+2) in the final round to secure the runner-up finish.
The Blazers will look to carry that momentum into their next event at Chattanooga beginning on April 21st.
