BIRMINGHAM - The UAB men's soccer squad and first-year head coach Jeff Kinney have announced the finalized 2019 season schedule. Their 2019 campaign consists of three NCAA Tournament contenders, Lipscomb, Kentucky, and Charlotte, as well as ACC, Big Ten and Big East opponents.
The Blazers are set to play 10 games at BBVA Field, including the annual Soccer for a Cure Classic.
"Going into our first fall season together as a team, we wanted to be sure that we had very good matches under our belts before we head into conference play. Playing ACC teams in preseason and then following those up with Big Ten and Big East teams on the road will give us a good idea of where we stand early," said Coach Kinney.
UAB starts their season with two exhibition matches in August. They will take on Clemson on August 20 and then travel to Louisville for their second exhibition match on August 24.
The regular season will kick off with two road games at Marquette (Aug. 30) and Wisconsin (Sept.1), but will then return to Birmingham shortly after for the 22nd consecutive season of Soccer for a Cure.
Soccer for a Cure will start with Memphis up against Milwaukee on Friday September 6. Immediately following the Memphis/Milwaukee game will be UAB versus Mercer. The games will resume on September 8 where the Blazers will take on Milwaukee and Memphis will play against Mercer.
UAB is back on the road after the Soccer for a Cure weekend, as they will travel on September 14 to Old Dominion for their first Conference USA matchup.
The Blazers return to Birmingham for a three game home slate. They will play conference opponent Charlotte on September 21, non-conference opponent Georgia Southern on September 24, and conference opponent FIU on September 28.
UAB hits the road in October, as they will play four road games. The first two come against conference opponent Marshall on October 5, and Memphis on October 8.
The Blazers return home in between road games for a conference matchup against University of South Carolina on October 12. The team returns to the road for a matchup against Appalachian State on October 16.
A second home slate will arrive for the Blazers in October for them to take on Gardner Webb on October 19 and Lipscomb on October 22.
October wraps up with one more road game in Atlanta to take on Georgia State on the 29th.
November kicks off with a home game that will also celebrate the seniors of the squad. Senior night will be celebrated on November 2 against Florida Atlantic.
The regular season will wrap up on November 8 at Kentucky while the Conference USA Championship is slated to begin on November 13.
