BIRMINGHAM – Winners of two straight and five of its last seven games, the UAB baseball team travels to Auburn on Tuesday night for a mid-week contest against the Tigers. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. from Plainsman Park.
UAB (22-26) is coming off of a 2-1 series victory at FIU over the weekend, dropping the first game but rallied to take the final two contests, including blasting off four home runs in the series final. Ian Ladner was responsible for one long shot and has been on a tear as of late, batting .579 with 11 hits, including three home runs and nine RBIs in his last five games. The designated hitter enters Tuesday in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak.
Jess Davis had a career day at the plate in the finale in Miami, going 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, a RBI and a home run. The freshman has tallied 42 stolen bases on the season, the second most in the NCAA and also ranks second nationally in stolen bases per game.
Austin Bohannon is scheduled to get the start on the mound for the Blazers. The lefty is making his third career start and holds a 1-2 record with a 5.01 ERA, tallying 14 walks and 15 strikeouts on the season. The start will be his first since getting the nod at Louisiana Tech on March 31.
Auburn (29-18) is coming off of a 2-1 series victory over rival Alabama. Conor Davis leads the Tigers' offense, being the lone Auburn hitter with an above .300 average. The infielder is batting .309 with 26 runs scored on 54 hits, including seven for extra bases.
Carson Skipper is scheduled to get the start on the hill for Auburn. The Trussville native carries a 3-2 record with a 6.89 ERA and 35 strikeouts over 32.2 innings of work in his freshman season on The Plains.
UAB and Auburn met once before this season on March 19 at Regions Field with the Tigers earning the 13-5 victory, scoring 11 combined runs in the fifth and sixth inning.
Following Tuesday's game at Auburn, UAB returns to Birmingham for its final homestand, beginning on Friday against Charlotte at Lawson State Community College. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
