BIRMINGHAM – The UAB baseball team is set to play the first of a four-game road trip on Tuesday night when it travels to Troy in the season finale with the Trojans. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. from Riddle Pace Field.
UAB (14-19, 2-10 C-USA) took the first meeting with Troy 8-6 at Regions Field on March 12. Tyler Tolbert and Colton Schultz combined for four hits, three runs scored and a trio of RBI, while Tyler Gates tossed 5.1 innings, allowing just two runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
Schultz has been one of the most effective hitters in the UAB lineup, leading the team in hits (42), home runs (4), RBI (32), while ranking third in batting average (.326). The Huntsville native is on a three-game hitting streak and is statistically the toughest batter to strike out in Conference USA.
Despite the bullpen issues this season for the Blazers, Matthew Calvert has been a go-to arm as the senior has made 12 appearances this season, including a pair over the weekend against Old Dominion. The Clay native logged 6.1 innings of work, allowing just one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts in two appearances against the Monarchs.
The Blazers will go to reliever Riley Davis to start against the Trojans. Davis leads UAB in appearances, but is making his first career start on Tuesday. In 13 outings this season the sophomore has allowed 22 runs on 35 hits with 23 strikeouts and just nine walks issued in 23.0 innings of work.
Troy (16-15, 5-7 Sun Belt) is coming off of a series victory at Texas State, recording wins in games one and two but fell in the finale on Sunday. Dalton Sinquefield headlines four Trojans batting above .300 as he his hitting .343 with 35 hits and a home run.
Taylor Pridgen is scheduled to make the start on the mound for the Trojans. The southpaw carries a 6.14 ERA to go along with a 0-0 record with 16 walks and just seven strikeouts over 14.2 innings of work this season.
Fans unable to make it to Troy can catch all of the action live on ESPN+ with Barry McKnight and Jerry Miller on the call. Those who are travelling to Riddle Pace Field can purchase tickets online or at the Ticket Office at the stadium for $8.
