UAB Falls in C-USA First Round

HOUSTON - UAB's season ended on Thursday afternoon after falling 4-0 to North Texas in the First Round of the Conference USA Championship.
Due to injuries, the Blazers (6-14) only fielded four players and were down 2-0 before the doubles point started. UAB did not field a #3 doubles team or players at #5 and #6 singles.
The doubles point was clinched when Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze, ranked #44, defeated Marlene Herrmann and Dominika Hrabalova on court 1. Alexandra Shchipakina and Megan Bertrands were trailing 3-2 on court 2 to Ivana Babic and Alexandra Heczey when the point was decided.
In singles, the match was finalized when Alexandra Heczey defeated Bertands 6-2, 6-1 on court 4.
Herrmann won the first set 7-6 in a breaker on court 1. Shchipakina dropped the first set 7-4 on court 2. Hrabalova won the first set 6-2 on court 3.
The Mean Green advance to face FIU tomorrow afternoon.
