UAB Faces Road Test at No. 10 Ole Miss

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB baseball team is set to face its toughest series of the early 2019 campaign when it travels to Oxford, Miss., for a three-game series at No. 10 Ole Miss. The Blazers and Rebels begin the series on Friday at 6:30 p.m. with games two and three to follow on Saturday and Sunday with a 1:30 p.m. first pitch set for both contests.
UAB (9-4, 0-0 C-USA) is coming off of a 4-3 loss at Alabama on Tuesday night. The Blazers got bases loaded with no outs in the top of the ninth, but were only able to push two runs across as they dropped their fourth game of the season.
J Paul Fullerton went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored at Alabama to record his third consecutive multi-hit game and extend his team-leading hitting streak to nine games. The catcher is batting .395 with 17 hits, seven for extra bases, including a pair of home runs. He has also added 16 RBIs and nine runs scored.
Zack Davis leads the UAB offense, batting .422 with 19 hits and 11 RBIs. The redshirt junior recorded a career high four hits in game two of the Radford series, helping UAB to its third consecutive series win to begin the 2019 season.
On the mound, Tanner Graham is set to get the start on Friday night, moving the senior into a tie for eighth for most starts in program history (36). The Killen, Ala., native has a 2-0 record and has allowed just two runs on six hits in 13.2 innings pitched this season. Tyler O'Clair and Tanner Rusk are set to get the start on the hill on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Rusk is coming off of a career high 10 strikeout performance in the series finale against Radford.
Ole Miss (9-3, 0-0 SEC) is coming off of an 11-8 win over Little Rock on Tuesday and a 3-2 loss to No. 14 East Carolina on Wednesday night. The Rebels are hitting a combined .293 with 98 runs scored in 119 hits with 21 doubles and 16 home runs. Ryan Olenek leads the Rebels' offense, batting .447 with four doubles, a home run and seven RBIs to go along with a .518 on base percentage.
The Ole Miss pitching staff boasts a 4.53 team ERA as three pitchers have not allowed a run this season, including Olenek who pitched one inning and collected a pair of strikeouts. Will Ethridge is also among the Rebels to not allow a run as the scheduled Friday night starter has logged 8.2 innings and allowed just six hits with seven strikeouts in two starts.
