BIRMINGHAM - The UAB men's basketball team concludes its three-game homestand on Saturday night when the Blazers host Charlotte at Bartow Arena. Tip is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Blazers (14-10, 6-5 C-USA) look to snap a three-game losing streak when the 49ers (5-18, 2-10) come to town. Despite the losing streak, UAB is still in a tie for fifth place in the league standings with three games remaining before C-USA bonus play starts.
After next weekend's games, the league will be broken up into pods, and teams 1-5, 6-10 and 11-14 will conclude the regular season with games against teams within their pods.
Following the Charlotte game, UAB hits the road with contests at Marshall and WKU. The Blazers and the Thundering Herd are tied for fifth place in the league standings at 6-5, while WKU is one game ahead at 7-4, making this Saturday a critical game for UAB within the standings.
Senior guard Jalen Perry led three Blazers in double-figures last game out with 14 points, and he now has 15 games this season scoring in double digits. Sophomore forward Makhtar Gueye had a game-high 12 rebounds, marking the fifth time this season he has pulled down 10+ rebounds.
If the Blazers can stop Charlotte's Jon Davis, they will have a good chance of winning Saturday's game. Davis is the league's second leading scorer at 21.2 ppg, but his next closest teammate averages 8.6 ppg.
Davis is one of three active Division I players to have 1,500 points and 500 assists. He is 30 points shy of 2,000 for his career.
