A LOOK AT THE STANDINGS:
There is a three-way tie for third place in the C-USA standings as UAB, WKU and Southern Miss are all 9-6 in league play. UTSA, who had a bye last week, is a half-game ahead at 9-5, while Old Dominion is 12-3.
Of these five teams in pod one, four of them will earn a first-round bye in the Conference USA Tournament, making this game against WKU vitally important for seeding. The team in pod one who does not receive a first-round bye will be no lower than the 5-seed in the C-USA Tournament, regardless of if a team from pod two finishes with a better regular season record.
Standings:
1. ODU: 22-6, 12-3
2. UTSA: 15-12, 9-5
3. UAB: 17-11, 9-6
4. USM: 17-10, 9-6
5. WKU: 16-12, 9-6
These two teams met just 12 days ago in Bowling Green and the Blazers walked away from Diddle Arena with their first win there since 1998. Sophomore Zack Bryant scored a game-high 24 points, while freshman forward Tavin Lovan added his first career double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds in a homecoming game for the Franklin, Ky., native.
After missing three games due to a hand injury from Feb. 2-9, Tavin Lovan has returned to the lineup and UAB is 3-0. The Blazers are 9-3 in league action when Lovan is healthy. In his last game out, Lovan scored a career-high 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting at Southern Miss.
Lewis Sullivan continues his all-conference worthy senior campaign and is coming off a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds at Southern Miss. No shot was bigger than Sullivan hitting a 3-pointer with six second left in regulation which forced overtime. Sullivan is the team's second leading scorer at 11.5 ppg and paces UAB on the glass at 6.8 rpg.
UAB will once again have to contend with freshman Charles Bassey who is a projected lottery pick. The 7-footer had 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting and 10 rebounds when the two teams met 12 days ago.
There will be pizza provided inside Bartow to students once doors open at 5:30 p.m.
