Men’s Golf Opens Spring Season at Loyola Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Coming off a very successful fall season, the UAB men's golf team looks to pick up right where they left off as the Blazers compete in their first spring tournament of the season this weekend, Feb. 23-25, at the Loyola Intercollegiate in Arizona.
The tournament is being hosted by at the Palms Course at the Palm Valley Golf Club and will play par 72, 7,015 yards. The three-day tournament begins on Saturday morning and is set for 18 holes each on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Along with UAB and Loyola, the field consists of Air Force, Army, Connecticut, DePaul, Elon, Gonzaga, Hartford, Maryland, Missouri State, Murray State, Seton Hall, SIU-Edwardsville, South Dakota, Towson, UT-Martin and Xavier.
The Blazers finished the fall with an overall record of 43-24-2, which included winning the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech and placing fourth at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational hosted by Hawaii. UAB enters the spring season ranked 70th nationally out of 296 teams.
Individually, Senior John Hayden led the team in the fall and is ranked No. 156 in the country. He has a team-low 71.2 stroke average and finished three of five fall tournaments under par. He was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week on Oct. 31.
Joining Hayden in Arizona this weekend is junior William Walker III, junior Murray Naysmith, sophomore Nick Robillard and redshirt freshman John Snoddy. Junior Sam Goldasich and sophomore John Racciatti will be playing as individuals.
