BIRMINGHAM - Just four days after playing at No. 9/11 Kentucky, UAB hits the road again to face Texas on Tuesday night. Tipoff at the Erwin Center will be 7 p.m.
UAB AND TEXAS HISTORY
UAB and Texas have faced each other once - three seasons ago. The Longhorns were 96-60 winners.
LAST TIME AGAINST TEXAS
UAB was right there for the first 13 minutes - trailing 23-20 with 7 minutes remaining in the first half. However, Texas used an 18-3 burst over the next five minutes to take control and eventually carry a 43-27 lead into halftime. UT outscored UAB 53-33 in the 2nd half in the 96-60 victory. Dirk Williams scored 11 points for UAB.
ABOUT TEXAS
The Longhorns are 6-1 on the season and have won all four games at home this season. Their only loss was to Georgetown in a neutral site game at Madison Square Garden as part of the 2K Empire Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project. UT's leading scorer is Matt Coleman (14.7 ppg). Texas is coming off a 73-71 victory over McNeese State on Saturday. Courtney Ramey broke a 71-71 tie with a pair of free throws with eight seconds remaining.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
After tying a career-high with 19 points on 7-11 shooting, including 4-of-5 3-pointers against No. 9/11 Kentucky, freshman guard Jalen Benjamin has earned Conference USA Freshman Player of the Week. Benjamin also scored 19 in UAB's 74-52 victory over Alabama A&M on Nov. 11. He has scored in double-figures in all but one game this season.
