BIRMINGHAM- UAB finishes regular season play in Lexington, Ky. in a must-win matchup against No. 16 Kentucky.
UAB (3-11-2, 1-4-1) sits at the bottom of the conference standings heading into the last week of play in which only the top six teams advance to the C-USA Tournament. The Blazers still have a chance but must beat the No. 16 Wildcats to make it to the post season.
The Blazers were shut out for the third time this season by Florida Atlantic last Saturday after a late goal propelled the Owls to victory and into fifth place in the standings. While the loss knocked the Blazers down, it did not knock them out.
The Green and Gold will look to get out to a fast start Friday night, something they have struggled to do this season. The Blazers have trailed going into half time on 11 occasions this year and have only led going into the half once. UAB is 2-8-1 when trailing at halftime and 0-4 when tied at the midway mark. The one time the Blazers led at halftime they hung on to beat South Carolina 1-0.
Kentucky (10-3-3, 3-2-1) currently sits at fourth in C-USA behind Charlotte, Marshall and FIU. The Wildcats are tied for first in the conference in shutouts this season with seven clean sheets. They scored a conference-high seven goals in one game against Wright State on Oct. 30.
The No. 16 team in the nation is led in scoring by Daniel Evans who has seven goals, but 15 different Wildcats have recorded goals this season.
Enrique Facusse has been dominant in the net recording 35 saves and seven shutouts in all 16 starts on the year.
The game kicks off at 6 p.m. on Friday night in Lexington, Ky. It is win or go home for UAB who fights to keep its season alive. The game will be streamed live on SEC Network+ and live stats will be available for fans to follow. It is Senior Night for the Wildcats as they host their last home match of the season.
