Men’s Golf Finishes Fifth at White Sands Intercollegiate

NASSAU, Bahamas - The UAB men's golf team shot -11 on the final day of the White Sands Intercollegiate to help the Blazers finish fifth overall in the Bahamas.
UAB's top four players all finished the tournament under par. As a team, the Blazers shot -20 overall and defeated No. 2 SMU by eight strokes, while finishing only one shot behind No. 1 Wake Forest (-21).
Senior William Walker III carded his fourth-consecutive tournament under par by shooting 70-72-68 = 210, -6. He finished tied for 11th to notch his fourth top 15 finish of the season.
Freshman Khavish Varadan put together the best tournament of his young career as he also shot -6 and tied for 11th. After an opening round 74, Varadan fired back-to-back rounds of four-under 68. The 11th place finish was the best of his career and it was his second straight tournament under par.
Both senior Murray Naysmith and junior Ben Reichert shot -3 for the tournament and tied for 25th overall. Naysmith (70-71-72 = 213, -3) has now been at even par or below in all five tournaments this season, while Reichert (73-71-69 = 213, -3) notched his third such tournament with his -3.
Alfie Fox rounded out UAB's lineup with a 70th place finish (72-76-75 = 223, +7).
No. 39 Houston won the tournament at -31, and was followed by Florida State (-24), No. 22 Arkansas (-22), No. 1 Wake Forest (-21) and the 46th-ranked Blazers (-20).
Individually, Parker Gilliam of Wake Forest (-17) won the tournament by three strokes and led the entire way, which was highlighted by shooting an opening round 60 (-12).
The Blazers are now done with fall competition, and in five tournaments played to an overall record of 48-20-0. UAB will resume action in February at a tournament hosted by South Alabama in Mobile.
