UAB AND KENTUCKY HISTORY
UAB and Kentucky have met five times in five different cities. The teams have met three times in the NCAA tournament (1981, 2004, 2006). UAB leads the series 3-2.
KENTUCKY LATELY
UK is coming off three straight victories over Utah Valley (82-74), Mount St. Mary's (82-62) and Lamar (81-56). Leading scorer is Tyrese Maxey (16.0 ppg) and leading rebounder is Nick Richards (8.2 rpg). The Wildcats are currently ranked No. 9 in the AP Poll and No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. UK is ranked No. 4 in the NCAA NET Rankings.
LAST TIME AGAINST KENTUCKY
Robert Vaden scored a career-high 33 points including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:15 to play as UAB rallied past Kentucky 79-76 on Dec. 15, 2007.
Walter Sharpe added 16 points and Reggie Huffman had 10 points and 12 rebounds as the Blazers (8-4) ruined Kentucky's annual visit to Freedom Hall, home of archrival Louisville.
The Blazers trailed by 14 but surged ahead on a 16-0 run fueled by Vaden as the Wildcats finally cooled off. UAB held Kentucky scoreless for more than five minutes, eventually taking a 66-64 lead with 5:22 remaining.
Freshman guard Aaron Johnson finished the game with eight of UAB's 20 assists, and eight points. The Blazers had just nine turnovers on the night.
ONE MO TIME
Mo Finley made a 17-foot jumper with 12.2 seconds left and ninth-seeded UAB hung on to stun the tournament's No. 1 seed 76-75 on March 21, 2004 in the second round of the St. Louis Regional played in Columbus.
The Blazers' win came almost exactly 23 years to the day that they beat Kentucky in the second round of the 1981 tournament - a victory the school had claimed as the turning point in its basketball program.

AGAINST THE SEC
