UAB Falls to No. 9/11 Kentucky 69-58

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The BBN Showcase wrapped up Friday night as UAB fell to No. 9/11 Kentucky 69-58 at Rupp Arena.
Tyreek-Scott Grayson scored a career-high 19 points and Jalen Benjamin tied his career-high, also 19 points, for the Blazers (4-2).
Nick Richards and EJ Montgomery scored 16 apiece for the Wildcats (6-1).
After giving up a pair of baskets inside the first minute of play, UAB called timeout, regrouped and responded with seven straight points capped by Benjamin's 3-pointer at 15:14.
However, UK would go on a 14-3 run over the next five minutes to take an 18-10 lead at the midway point of the half. The Wildcats would take a 13 point advantage into halftime at 38-25.
UAB would cut the deficit to single digits twice in the second half – the later on a layup by Tavin Lovan that made the score 42-33 at 16:05.
As a team, UAB shot 50 percent from beyond the arc, hitting on 8-of-16, with Benjamin making 4-of-5 attempts. The Wildcats held the edge in the paint 30-28.
The Blazers' next game is Dec. 3 when they travel to Texas (5-1). The Longhorns host McNeese State tomorrow afternoon.
