BIRMINGHAM – After coming off a great season and entering their second season as members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), head coach Michelle Crews has announced the UAB bowling team's schedule for the 2019-20 season. The Blazers will compete in eight tournaments during the regular season before starting the postseason in March.
"We are so excited to finally announce our 2019-2020 schedule," Crews said. "There are so many amazing tournaments to choose from that this year was especially hard. With the expansion of the national championship to a field of 16, of which there will be four regional locations then the winner of each regional will go to the final championship site, strength of schedule became more important this year than any year previously. I'm proud of what I have come up with, and I'm excited to see how the team rises to the occasion this season."
The team will open the season with the Allstate Collegiate Bowling Invitational in Kenner, La. from Friday, Oct. 18 through Sunday, Oct. 20. UAB will then travel north to O'Fallon, Ill. for the Bearcat Hammer Open that is set for Oct. 25-27 and to Baltimore for their first MEAC conference match of the season hosted by Coppin State on Nov. 8-10.
To close out the fall season, the Blazers will participate in the Stallings Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. from Nov. 15-17.
After the Holiday break, UAB will pick back up in February with the Wildcat Classic (Feb. 7-9) in Orlando, Fla. They will continue their spring slate with the Mid-Winter Classic (Feb. 14-16) in Jonesboro, Ark., another MEAC conference match (Feb. 21-23) in Pensacola, Fla., and the Columbia 300 Music City Classic (March 6-8) in Smyrna, Tenn. hosted by Vanderbilt.
Postseason tournaments will begin with the USBC Sectionals on March 13-15, followed by the MEAC Conference Championship that will be held in Chesapeake, Va. from March 20-22.
The NCAA Regional Championships will be held on April 3-5. The NCAA National Championships (Apr. 9-11) and USBC Intercollegiate Team and Singles Championship (Apr. 15-18) will be held in the state of Michigan.
UAB is coming off its sixth season as a program. They completed last season with a record of 57-28 overall, finish ranked No. 16 nationally and returned 12 of their 14 players from last year.
This year will mark the senior season for Annie Hurley, Sierra Lewis, Taylor Russell and Rachel Strogin.
