BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Chandler Backes scored the only goal of the match in the 66th minute as WKU outlasted UAB 1-0 on Friday night. Backes took a pass from Avery Jacobsen from 12 yards out to find back of the net.
The Blazers (4-6-5, 2-4-2 C-USA) were outshot 20-6. Keeper Eve Beyer made five saves for UAB.
Although the game was fast paced to start with, neither team registered a shot on goal though the first 20 minutes.
WKU had the first chance to score when Ambere Barnett's shot was turned away be a diving Beyer in the 50th minute. Barnett, who finished with a match-high six shots, was robbed again by Beyer in the 55th minute.
UAB's scoring chances happened late in the match when Regan Kommor was stopped twice by Hilltoppers keeper Anne-Marie Ulliac in the 79th and 82nd minutes.
The Blazers had a corner kick in the final minute of play, but did not register a shot.
UAB remains on the road to face Southern Miss on Oct. 27 and the regular season finale at Middle Tennessee on Nov. 1.
