BIRMINGHAM – Looking to ride the momentum of last weekend's strong outing, the UAB track and field team goes to Nashville to race in the Vanderbilt Invitational on January 18-19.
The event will feature 21 teams, including UAB, Alabama, Auburn, Cincinnati, UConn, Georgia Tech, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky and host school Vanderbilt.
Emily Drouin looks to continue her assault on the UAB record books as she has set PRs in the 3,000 meter run in the first two meets of the season. Drouin is currently 19th in the NCAA in the women's 3,000 with her time of 9:42.26.
Zieandrea Bridges likewise has broken the school record in shot put in her first two meets of the season. Bridges has broken her own school record multiple times and will look to improve on her distance again this weekend.
While most of the team is in Nashville, a small contingent of Blazers will compete in Birmingham at the Samford Multi and Samford Invite at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
From the Coach's Desk:
"We had a solid weekend hosting the Blazer Invitational and Vulcan Invitational and we got some good results after being off for several weeks over the holiday break," head coach Kurt Thomas said. "We are really focused on cleaning things up and continuing to build on each performance as we head toward the conference meet. Each weekend is critical and we'll get to run against several conference opponents this weekend in Nashville so it'll be a good early test."
Up Next:
Following the Vanderbilt Invitational, the Blazers travel to Cambridge, Mass. to compete in the Harvard Crimson Elite on Feb. 1.
