BIRMINGHAM – Competing for the second day in a row, the UAB track and field team closed out the weekend with another strong showing in the Vulcan Invitational Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
It was a light day of competition for UAB but one that still yielded some strong results. Marielle Lewis finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:17.10. It was her first foray into the event this season as she looks to break her personal best of 2:13.99.
Blazer Highlights
Track Side with Head Coach Kurt Thomas
"It was a lighter day of competition for us with most of our girls having raced yesterday," Thomas said. "We had a few girls go back-to-back and that gives them a taste of what the conference meet will be like. Overall, it was a good weekend especially after not having competed in four weeks. We know what we need to continue to work on and this weekend gives us a great foundation to which we can build and improve upon as we head towards the c-USA Championships."
Up Next
The Blazers will travel north to Nashville next weekend as they run in the Vanderbilt Invitational. The meet will cover two days, January 18-19. UAB will return to the Birmingham CrossPlex on February 9 for the Samford Invitational.
