BIRMINGHAM – Coming off a frustrating loss last Sunday at Florida Atlantic, the UAB women's soccer team looks to rebound on Thursday night when it wraps up a two-match road trip against UTEP. Kickoff at University Field is set for 8 p.m. (CST).
UAB (4-4-1) has history on its side entering the midweek contest, as the Blazers have never lost back-to-back road games under head coach Erica Demers.
"Flying out to UTEP always has its challenges, but I know our players are excited and ready for the game," Demers said. "This week was short but productive and we are looking forward to watching our team play and execute our game plan."
In their last game out, the Blazers offense battled late against the Owls, but could not find an equalizer before falling 1-0 at the FAU Soccer Complex. Three Blazers recorded a pair of shots in the loss, led by Jessica Do who recorded UAB's only shot on goal.
Forwards Kamilah Mustafa and Jamiera Lunsford continue to pace the Blazers' attack, leading the team with 11 shots apiece. Mustafa is the team leader in goals scored with five on the year, while Lunsford has added two of her own.
Caroline Kehrer is the only other Blazer to register a goal this season, scoring 76 seconds into UAB's win over Louisiana Tech on September 16.
Goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty continues to be a rock in goal, recording 50 saves and three shutouts on the year. Her save total ranks her in a tie for 50th nationally, while her 5.56 saves per game is good for 45th in the NCAA.
UTEP (6-4-1) is coming off an impressive 4-1 rivalry win over New Mexico State on Sunday. Four different Miners scored in the game, including a goal from Natalie Valentine less than two minutes into the match.
Vic Bohdan and Lauren Crenshaw lead the Miners with four goals and one assist apiece. Crenshaw has done the most damage in the offensive third, peppering opposing goalkeepers with 36 shots, 15 of which have been on frame.
UAB and UTEP will meet for the 14th time when they take the field on Thursday night, with the all-time series tied at 5-5-3. The Green and Gold seek to win back-to-back games in El Paso for the first time in program history and extend their winning streak against the Miners to five games.
Fans will be able to catch all of the action via livestream on CUSA.tv, while live stats for Thursday's match will also be provided here.
