BIRMINGHAM – Serving as tournament host, the UAB men's golf team finished ninth at the 2018 Shoal Creek Invitational on Tuesday at Shoal Creek Country Club.
After play was suspended on Monday afternoon due to thunderstorms, the field finished round two at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and moved immediately into the third round as all 14 teams played more than the regularly-scheduled 18 holes today.
The Blazers (292-303-295) shot a collective +26 for the tournament and carded their lowest round (+4) during the opening 18 holes on Monday.
Three Blazers tied for the team's low honors as sophomore Nick Robillard, junior Sam Goldasich and freshman Ethan Hagood (playing as an individual) all shot +7 on a course which proved to play difficult the entire week. Only 12 players in a field of 87 were under par for the entire tournament.
William Walker III (+9) was the team's third finisher, while John Hayden (+11) and John Racciatti (+12) rounded out the Blazer lineup.
Individually, John Snoddy (+12), Sam Jeffcoat (+18), Murray Naysmith (+20) and Alfie Fox (+31) also participated in the tournament.
Texas A&M won the tournament at -8 and was the only team under par, while North Florida (+1), Vanderbilt (+3), Ole Miss (+6) Kansas (+12) and Kennesaw State (+12) rounded out the top five.
Individually, Phillip Knowles of North Florida and Steven Fisk on Georgia Southern tied for top honors at six under par.
The Blazers remain in Birmingham for their next tournament, the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Alabama at Old Overton Golf Club.
