BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's golf team is set to host the 2018 Shoal Creek Invitational this Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 24-25, and the famed Shoal Creek Country Club.
The tournament will tee off at 7:20 a.m. on Monday and the field will play 36 holes, followed by the final 18 on Tuesday. UAB is paired with No. 4 Vanderbilt and Ole Miss in the first two rounds.
Along with UAB, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt, the field consists of Georgia Southern, High Point, Kansas, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Lipscomb, Louisiana Tech, North Florida, Samford, South Alabama and No. 3 Texas A&M.
The field has two top-5 teams in No. 3 Texas A&M and No. 4 Vanderbilt, while six teams are ranked inside the top-50 and 10 inside the top-100.
"We're excited to play at home in a tournament that is stacked with quality opponents," head coach Mike Wilson said. "We are paired with two very good teams and it should bring out the best in our players. I am looking forward to having some low scores from our guys this week."
UAB's lineup will see William Walker III, John Hayden, Nick Robillard, John Racciatti and Sam Goldasich represent for the Blazers. At last year's Shoal Creek Invitational, Walker III finished in a tie for third place and shot a course record 64 (-8) in the opening round.
Alfie Fox, Ethan Hagood, Sam Jeffcoat, Murray Naysmith and John Snoddy will all be playing as individuals for the Blazers.
UAB will tee off hole one at 7:20 a.m., while North Florida, Kennesaw State and Liberty tee off at the same time from hole 10. The other pairings consist of Texas A&M, Kansas and Georgia Southern (8:05, hole one), South Alabama, La. Tech and High Point (8:05, hole 10), and Samford and Lipscomb (8:50, hole 10).
