BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's tennis team opens the 2018-19 season this weekend when it travels to Midland, Texas to compete in the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational.
The tournament, hosted this weekend from Sept. 14-16, will be the first of six tournaments for the Blazers during their fall schedule.
"The Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational is one of our favorite stops on the fall schedule," head coach Mark Tjia said. "It is one of the best run and hosted tournament in the country and it is an honor and a treat to be invited back again. It's always fun to play schools from all over the country that we don't normally face."
During last year's tournament, UAB returned with two back draw wins for Megan Bertrands and Alexandra Shchipakina at the invitational. This will only be the second time that the team has competed in this event.
UAB enters this season returning its entire squard from last year, including Second Team All-Conference performer Marlene Herrmann, who finished the year with 12-straight wins to post her overall 15-4 record.
Following this weekend's tournament, the Blazers will travel to Milwaukee to compete in the Milwaukee Classic on Sept. 20-23.
