Blazers Fall in Overtime at FIU

MIAMI – Despite battling to the final second of extra time, the UAB men's soccer team fell 2-1 at FIU on Friday night.
Tonight marked the fourth extra time match of the season for the Blazers as they are just 1-3 in those contests.
"Tonight was incredibly heart breaking," head coach Mike Getman said. "Our guys played so hard and so well for the whole game. To lose our third match in overtime seems unfair. I know that if we keep working this hard and playing this well things have to balance out in the long run."
UAB (1-5-0, 0-2-0) struck first in the 58th minute as DeAndre Robinson netted his first goal of the season to put the Blazers ahead 1-0.
FIU (2-4-0, 2-0-0) tied the match at one in the 71st minute as Joris Ahlinvi headed in a goal on a pass for Caleb Frankie.
The matched remained scoreless until the 109th minute when the Panthers netted the golden goal with 23 ticks remaining on the clock to take the match 2-1.
For Robinson, it was the fourth goal of the midfielder's career and his first since 2016.
Seth Torman made his first career start in goal as he went a career-high 109:37 minutes, despite being credited with the loss.
UAB returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 18, when it welcomes long-time rival Memphis to BBVA Compass Field. Kickoff between the Blazers and Tigers is slated for 7 p.m.
