MADISON, Wisc. – The UAB men's golf team finished in a tie for sixth place overall at the Badger Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin at University Ridge Golf Course.
The Blazers posted a cumulative +14 throughout the three-day tournament and tied their best single-day performance by shooting +3 in Tuesday's final round.
John Hayden led the Blazers in the 54-hole tournament by finishing in a tie for seventh place overall at three-under. Hayden was at or under par in all three rounds, including a one-under on the final day of action.
"John played very well the entire tournament and it was a great start to his senior year," head coach Mike Wilson said. "We had some ups and downs this week which is to be expected in the first tournament, but I would like to see us play more consistent as we head to our home tournament in two weeks at Shoal Creek."
Sophomore Nick Robillard finished in a tie for 16th at +2 and junior William Walker III finished tied for 29th at +6. Ethan Hagood completed his first collegiate tournament in 54th place at +13, while junior Murray Naysmith rounded out the Blazers' effort in a tie for 63rd at +17.
Illinois State took home first place at -9, followed by Kansas, (-5), Iowa State (-1), Nevada (-1), Marquette (+3) and UAB (+14) to round out the top half of the field.
UAB finished Tuesday's final round with one eagle and 16 birdies. The Blazers had two eagles and 47 birdies throughout the three-day event.
The UAB men's golf returns to action on Monday, September 24th at the Shoal Creek Invitational. The tournament will be hosted by UAB and played at Shoal Creek Country Club in Birmingham.
