STOCKTON, Calif. – After holding the (RV) University of the Pacific scoreless for 89:49 minutes, the Tigers scored two goals in less than 10 minutes to come from behind and defeat the UAB men's soccer team 2-1 on Friday night.
Louis-Etienne Nzonza put the Blazers on the board in the 26th minute as the freshman forward netted his first career goal to give UAB a 1-0 lead.
The Blazers would not allow a single Tiger shot on goal until the final minute, when Camden Riley tied the match at one with an unassisted goal with 11 seconds remaining in regulation.
In the 96th minute, Mamoru Kamisasanuki nailed a shot into the back of the net from the right wing for the golden goal as the Tigers claimed the opening night match.
"I thought we were really good tonight and deserved to win," head coach Mike Getman said. "Pacific only had once chance in the second half when it got the goal to tie it up. I was proud of how hard we played against a top-25 team on the road."
The Blazers were out shot by the Tigers 14-9, but led in shots on goal with six to Pacific's three.
Freshmen Nzonza and Blake White led the Blazers in shots on goal as each had two apiece.
UAB wraps up its West Coast swing Sunday night when it takes on Santa Clara. Kickoff between the Blazers and the Broncos is slated for 9:30 p.m. CST.
