Blazers Fall at No. 11 Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The UAB men's soccer team opened its 2018 preseason with a 3-0 loss at No. 11 Clemson on Tuesday night.
Clemson took a lead it would not relinquish in the 23rd minute when Robbie Robinson found the back of the net off a ball from Gian Scalise to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Eight minutes later, Patrick Bunk-Anderson scored on a pass from Adrian Nunez to extend the Clemson lead to 2-0.
The Tigers scored their final goal of the contest at the 54 minute mark when Kimarni Smith got a ball past UAB keeper Seth Torman.
"I am disappointed with the result," head coach Mike Getman said. "I think we are better than the score shows. Except for a few mistakes I thought we created some good chances and had our share of the ball. The reason we played top-10 teams in the preseason is so we can learn and improve. This was a great preseason scrimmage."
UAB committed just eight fouls to Clemson's 19, while the Blazers tallied eight saves to the Tigers' three.
James Teal, Torman and Julian Mehl all saw time in net. All were credited with at least one save with Teal leading the way with three.
UAB closes its exhibition slate on Saturday, Aug. 18 when it welcomes Mercer to BBVA Compass Field. Kickoff between the Blazers and Bears is slated for 7 p.m.
Fans can receive access to every home men's soccer, women's basketball, women's soccer, baseball, softball and volleyball game for the entire 2018-19 season by purchasing a Gold Card. Contact the UAB Ticket Office (205) 975-UAB1 for more details.
