Blazers Travel to Jacksonville State for Final Mid-Week Contest

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB baseball team begins the final week of the regular season with its last mid-week game of the year at Jacksonville State. First pitch between the Blazers and Gamecocks is slated for 6 p.m. from Choccolocco Park in Oxford.
Quick Hitters
- UAB (20-28, 12-15) is coming off a 1-2 series at Conference USA foe Rice over the weekend. The Blazers dropped the first and final game of the series, but defeated the Owls, 5-3, in game two.
- With one final weekend of league play left, the Blazers are in eighth place and look to make the C-USA Tournament for the first time since 2015. The Blazers' last trip to Biloxi resulted in them playing in the championship game.
- Tyler Tolbert swiped his 23rd base of the season in game two at Rice to crack into the top-10 in stolen bases in a single season list at UAB. Tolbert is one stolen base shy of a tie for eighth.
- Carter Pharis had a successful weekend in Houston as he went 8-for-12 at the plate with a pair of doubles and a run scored. The junior is tied with Brett Blackwood for highest batting average on the team with a .303 mark.
- Cole Collins moved into the leadoff spot in the order after proving that he finds a way to get on base. The Cullman, Ala., native has reached base safely in 30 of the 37 games he has played in and leads the team with a .433 on-base percentage.
- UAB Volunteer Assistant Coach Ron Polk was recently tabbed as a 2018 SEC Legend. Polk ranks ninth all-time in Division I in career wins with 1,373 to along with eight trips to the College World Series.
Scouting Jacksonville State
- Jacksonville State (26-23, 15-12 OVC) went 2-1 over UT Martin in its final home series of the season.
- Nic Gaddis leads the team at the plate hitting .327 with 17 doubles and a team-high nine home runs. The junior catcher has been even more successful reaching base as he has done so successfully 44.4 percent of the time this season.
- On the mound the Gamecocks are led by Christian Edwards who carries a 1.40 ERA with a 3-1 record over 15 appearances, all out of the bullpen. The freshman has surrendered just 16 walks to his 41 strikeouts while holding opponents to .107 batting average.

Following Tuesday night's matchup, the Blazers return to Young Memorial Field for the final time when they host Middle Tennessee. UAB and the Blue Raiders are slated for a three-game series, beginning on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.. The two squads square off again on Friday at 6:30 p.m. with the regular-season finale coming Saturday at 1 p.m. with a special senior recognition before the game.
