UAB Battles Samford for Birmingham Bragging Rights

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After winning their first road series against a ranked opponent in program history, the UAB baseball team returns to Birmingham to take on Samford. The Blazers and Bulldogs will wrap up the season series on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
Quick Hitters
- UAB (19-22, 11-10 C-USA) comes in riding a two-game win streak, with Ryan Ruggles and Tyler Gates picking up wins at FAU.
- Gates' win Sunday was his team-high fourth of the season, whie Ryan Wesson put in a strong 3.2 scoreless innings in relief to earn his first career save.
- Brett Blackwood continues his hot hitting, leading the team with a .345 average and six homeruns. The junior is in the top-10 in Conference USA in batting average and slugging percentage (.555).
- Tyler Tolbert has shown steady improvement at the plate, ripping a career-high two doubles with four RBI in Sunday's series finale. With 22 stolen bases on the season, the sophomore needs one more to crack UAB's single season stolen base record.
- Matthew Calvert will get the nod for the Blazers on Tuesday, making his third start of the season. The junior carries a 1-0 record with a 2.33 ERA and has not allowed a run in his last 10 innings pitched.

- Samford (24-21, 10-5 SoCon) are looking to get back to their winning ways as the Bulldogs are currently stuck in a seven game losing streak after being swept by UNC-Greenville and SIU-Edwardsville and losing at Auburn.
- Brooks Carlson and Anthony Mulrine lead the Bulldogs squad at the plate, hitting .309 with six home runs and .301 with five home runs, respectively.
